This course has been prepared with a view to preparing English teachers for their role as primary English teachers. With this in mind and wishing to prepare future teachers of English in primary education to be reflective practitioners and to gain an insight into their own beliefs and practices, this seminar uses a mixture of theoretical and practical approaches to support, demonstrate and provide experiential opportunities that afford a space for considering the implications and consequences of certain practices. There are an increasing number of theoretical texts available which discuss issues related to teaching YLs, reflecting different contexts around the world.  By providing participants with access to such texts and the provision of opportunities for critical discussion related their own contexts, it is hoped that participants will relate ideas and opinions with their own experiences and practices and discuss concerns and issues, resulting in a supportive environment for professional development.
